Peter Rackman
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Peter Rackman was a London-based landlord in the 1950s and 1960s. He provided housing for many people - including immigrants - that other landlords weren't prepared to house; however his rents were often perceived as high, his properties were sometimes in poor condition and his enforcement of unpaid debts was strict. Rackman is linked with 1960s popular culture as a result of his friendship with Christine Keeler and his association with the Kray twins. It's believed that Rackman was a keen taxidermist and avoided paying the Krays by giving them a nightclub. As a result of Rackman's policies, unfair landlord (or 'slumlord') behaviour is sometimes known as Rackmanism.
