Peter Buck (restauranteur)

Peter Buck is a physicist, restaurateur, and philanthropist. He co-founded the Subway fastfood restaurant chain.

A graduate of Bowdoin College and an engineer, he earned master’s and doctoral degrees in physics at Columbia University[1]. He loaned partner Fred De Luca $1,000 in 1965 to open a sandwich shop to help him pay for college. Together they formed Doctor's Associates to oversee operations of the restaurants as the franchise expanded. Subway now has over 28,700 franchised locations in 86 countries. In 2005, Forbes listed him as the 207th richest man in America and, in 2006, they listed him as 512th richest man in the world.

Dr. Buck, a widower, lives in Danbury, Connecticut with his son William. His other son, Christopher, currently resides in New York City.
