Recognizing the Peshmerga GuardIraqi Kurdistan Regional Protective Force

The Kurdistan Peshmerga Guard consists of loyal Kurd youths who struggled for many years to perform the main goals for the Kurdish people and they have become the main factor for getting more achievements for the Kurdish people and they are also the main background of removing the previous dictatorial Iraqi regime headed by Saddam Hussain. So they have become the fundamental reason for establishing the modern democratic community system and federalism for the Kurdish people.

On the other hand, after the downfall of Iraqi regime and the appearance of the provisional Iraqi military law, a very significant point was issued that Kurdistan regional government will procure its internal affairs by itself. Therefore, after the approval of coalition forces and declaring their positive stand from the resolution of one thousand four hundred fifty three (1453) of security council which was issued in eight of May in 2003 and also after the agreement of Iraqi provisional council, Kurdistan regional government decided to prepare a division of twenty one thousand Peshmergas in order to enable these forces to work instead of police men in the places where the policemen can not do their duties properly and even these forces can be used outside the cities for protecting their security. In addition to this, a staff of (5000) five thousand Peshmergas had been prepared to protect and serve Kurdistan environment.

The Mission and Responsibilities of The Zerevani Division:

The fundamental mission of the Zerevani Division is the security of the Iraqi Kurdistan Region. It is to serve and protect the regional community and its structural integrity. The Zerevani Division is an armed force attached to the Kurdistan Regional Government. This force operates under the authority of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Command of the Kurdistan Army. The Zerevani forces stand ready to carry out the orders issued from this authority in the fulfillment of its mission.

The Structural Organization of the Zerevani Division:

The organizational structure of the Zerevani consists of the Divisional Command Headquarters located in Erbil, the Capitol of the Iraqi Kurdistan Region. It is directly related to the Kurdistan Ministry of Internal Affairs. The Commander of the Zerevani force is also a member of the Command of the Kurdistan Army. The Divisional Command also serves as the headquarters of the Peshmerga Regional Guard (Zerevani) consisting of various departments related to Zerevani Command Headquarters. The Divisional forces and its battalions are distributed throughout the provinces and towns of Kurdistan in the performance of their duties.

I. The Headquarters of the Zerevani Command: The Headquarters of the Command of Kurdistan Peshmerga Guard (Zerevani) consists of the following departments:

   1. The Department of Accounts and Logistics.
   2. The Administration Department.
   3. The Defense Department with the Criminal Search Department.
   4. The Communication and Education Department.
   5. The Police Education Department.
   6. The Military Education Department.
   7. The Zerevani Commando Forces.
   8. The Department of  Organization for Zerevani forces outside the Iraqi Kurdistan Region.
   9. The Department of Communications.

II. The Zerevani Command Units: The Zerevani Command Units consist of the following units:

   1. Division.
   2. Battalion.
   3. Force.
   4. Branch.
   5. Ranks.
   6.Company
   7. Two Military camps

III. The main duties of the Command of the Kurdistan Peshmerga (Zerevani) Guard:

   1. The Zerevani Force acts to protect and help the citizens of the Iraqi Kurdistan Region from all threats, foreign and domestic.
   2. It serves to protect all formal governmental establishments within the region such as the International Airport of Erbil, the Korean military camp of the Zaytun Division, the protection of the electrical power and water pumping facilities, the Custom House points, the Banks and other vital facilities within the Kurdistan border.
   3. It protects all important roads, bridges, tourist and archeological sites of the region.
   4. It provides security for the transportation of money and protection for the delegations which come from outside the Kurdistan Region. 
   5. The Force acts to help citizens in times of crisis or natural disaster in any area of occurrence with emergency assistance.
   6. Within its boundaries the Force assists in auto accidents and provides any relevant information it may have to the Police Directorate.
   7. It provides security for the officials who work within the establishments of the Kurdistan Regional Government such as Kurdish Representatives, Ministers and Parliamentarians as well as many Arab Ministers who work within the Iraqi Federal State as well as visiting Dignitaries.
   8. It works in conjunction with the Local Police to prevent illegal demonstrations and civil disorder or riots.
   9. In agreement with the Iraqi Central Government, this force assists in other places outside its borders to establish security throughout the Nation.
   10. The Force acts to apprehend and arrest smugglers, drug traffickers, currency forgers and remains constantly vigilant for insurgent and terrorist activities.  —Preceding unsigned comment added by Baveviyal (talkcontribs) 07:46, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
