[edit] Improve by...
The Perkin-Elmer article could be improved by bringing it into line with its relationship with NASA and the history of the Hubble Telescope. [1]
- I would like to see the article improved, by adding in the various companies it bought or merged with over time. Wjhonson 16:33, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Labsupply co
Ok, not directly related - but it's a question that's been annoying me for quite a while. Does anyone know why those Labsupply companies (almost) never show the price for their articles on their webpages??Lukas 07:52, 22 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Computer company
Perkin-Elmer was involved in computer manufacture (or perhaps re-badging) for a time. I used a Perkin-Elmer 3210 mini computer, running some version of Unix, in 1984. Mr Barndoor 15:45, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
- Perkin-Elmer Computer Systems Division was formed through the purchase of Interdata, Inc. (an independent computer manufacturer) in 1974. They were a major supplier of 16 bit and 32 bit mega-mini computers (the Alaska pipeline, banks, NASA, etc.) until about 1989, when they sold the division (Concurrent Computer Corporation) to Massachusetts Computer Corporation, which was later bought by Harris Corporation of Melbourne, Florida. The 32 bit computers were very similar to an IBM 370 but, ran the OS/32MT operating system. Another company did port a version of Unix for the Perkin-Elmer machines. I know this because I worked in the Perkin-Elmer Computer Systems Division, Product Support and Test Departments from October 1973 to June 1984.
