Perpetual Groove (or PGroove) is an American jam band that originated in 1997 in Savannah, Georgia. The band's founding members include Brock Butler on the guitar/lead vocals, Adam Perry on the bass guitar, Joe Stickney on drums and Brett Hinton on the keyboard. The four met at Savannah College of Art and Design during their freshman year. At graduation, Stickney and Hinton both left the band. In 2001, Albert Suttle and Matt McDonald began playing drums and keyboard, respectively, with the remaining original members; this remains the current line-up.
Perpetual Groove, colloquially known as PGroove[1], incorporates a blend of traditional Southern rock, funk, jazzy improvisation and synth loops. The band hosts their own gathering every Memorial Day weekend known as Amberland. Amberland began as a party exclusively for friends and family.
Matt McDonald recently resigned from the band. Amberland this year will be his last performance with Perpetual Groove. Pgroove is said to continue as a trio with guest musicians sitting in their already scheduled shows.
Perpetual Groove released their third major album, "LIVELOVEDIE" on March 6, 2007.
On May 25, 2008 keyboard player Matt McDonald played his final official show with the band at an annual festival called Amberland. The band plans to tour as a trio of Butler, Perry & Suttle. Leaving on amicable terms to focus his time on his family, McDonald continues to compose and produce music independently.
