[edit] History
In 2001, Nocchi (Ayano Ōmoto), Kashiyuka (Yuka Kashino), and A~chan (Ayaka Nishiwaki), friends from Hiroshima, aged 11–12, joined together to form Perfume.
In 2002, they released two limited edition singles called "Omajinai Perori" and "Kareshi Boshūchū", sold only in Hiroshima.
In 2003, Perfume moved to Tokyo and became produced by FUURI-CL. By 2004, they had released three singles, "Sweet Donuts", "Monochrome Effect", and "Vitamin Drop" under the Indies label Bee-Hive. They also performed three live shows within that time. Fans acquired appreciation for them because of their energetic performances.
On September 21, 2005, "Linearmortor Girl" was released: Yasutaka Nakata used their cute pop/techno style for their major debut. In 2006 Perfume released two singles, "Computer City" and "Electro World". It wasn't until 2007, Perfume was chosen to promote their new single "Polyrhythm" in a recycling campaign commercial. After that, Perfume was a huge success. The day of its release, "Polyrhythm" hit number #4 on the Oricon charts and #7 for the weekly ranking, making this the first time Perfume has reached the top 10. It turned Perfume into a major hit group in Japan selling over 60,000 copies of their single Polyrhythm alone. After that, they appeared on many shows and radio programs such as Hey! Hey! Hey! Music Champ, Music Station (which exposed them overseas through its airings on ANIMAX), and Liquidroom. On December 31, 2007, Perfume performed in a concert titled "Countdown 2008". This is by far the biggest performance in the history of the group. In Feb. 2008, Perfume released their new single "Baby Cruising Love / Macaroni". It broke the previous records by achieving #3 on the daily and weekly charts. Complete best has hit the charts since it's release due to Perfume's growing popularity. Perfume's newest album Game has achieved #1 on April 16, 2008 on the daily Oricon charts.
On April 4, 2008, Perfume will begin starring in the show, Happy!, along with model Naoto Tokuzawa and comedian Nishioka Sumiko.[1] The talk show will be aired every Friday night on Nippon Television. Following the start of the show, Perfume's second album, Game, is set for release on April 16, 2008.[2] The album will be released in regular and limited editions with the latter including a DVD. The DVD will include a video of their new song "Ceramic Girl" (セラミックガール?), which was introduced on the commercial for VAIO also known as "Perfume VAIO Movie Lovely Story". The DVD also includes different versions of the PV for "Macaroni": -A~chan Version-, -Nocchi Version-, and -Kashiyuka Version-.
On April 9, 2008 a video for another new song from the Game, Secret Secret premiered on MTV Japan. Another song in the album, Butterfly is used in the 2nd Promotional Video of Mugen no Frontier: Super Robot Wars OG Saga.
