Perdiswell Young People's Leisure Club[1] is a voluntary organisation located in the north of Worcester, England. It is sometimes known locally as The Blue Roof, because of its distinctive blue, metal roof. [Image:[2]|thumb|The Club Today]
[edit] History
Perdiswell Young People's Leisure Club was established in 1976 in an old, wartime, asbestos Nissen hut.
A programme of fundraising began and, in 1986, the club gained charitable status. The new building was opened in 1989. Further fundraising allowed 2 more extensions to the building, in 1994 and 2000.
[edit] Activities
The club offers a wide variety of activities for young people, such as Youth Discos, a playgroup, Guides and Brownies, a dance school and many other small, local organisations. There are also many groups for adults, such as Guilbert and Sullivan, Weight Watchers, and Perdiswell Mature Club.
Their rooms are available to book for meetings, children's parties and a wide variety of other events.
[edit] Skate Park
In April 2004, construction began on a Skate Park and Youth Lodge. The park was completed in April 2005, with the Lodge opening slightly later. The official opening was held on 15 August 2005, but was unfortunately hit by heavy rain. However, it was generally considered to be a successful day. [3]
It was designed by local young people, with consultations being held at local schools. It is the only facility of its kind in Worcester, being floodlit, fenced and supervised at all times.
