People of the Lie is the title of a book written by psychiatrist and author M. Scott Peck regarding human evil. Written in 1983, it followed on from Peck's first book entitled The Road Less Travelled, which sets out principles for leading a good life, and sold a record-breaking number of copies.

In the book Peck describes gives the stories of several people who came to him whom he found particularly resistant to any form of help. He came to think of them as evil and goes on to describe the characteristics of evil in psychological terms, proposing that it could become a psychiatric diagnosis.
Chapter 4, entitled 'Charlene, a teaching case' is central to the book, and describes a particularly compelling and challenging story.
