An indirect presidential election was held in the People's Republic of China at the First Session of the 11th National People's Congress (NPC), namely on 15 March 2008.[1] Hu Jintao was the only candidate, and was elected in an approval ballot (with only three votes against); Xi Jinping was elected as Vice-President.[2]

- Xi Jinping (for Vice-President): 2,919 for, 28 against, 7 abstentions [3]
- Wen Jiabao (for Premier): 2,926 for, 21 against, 12 abstentions
