[edit] Separate page for the Local Government Area

As per discussion at Talk:List of Sydney suburbs, I have created a separate page for the City of Penrith, the Local Government Area. -- Ianblair23 12:17, 30 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Penrith High School Fan Club

I really don't feel there is anything so important or distinguished about Penrith High School that its merits need to be extolled in the Penrith City wikipedia article. The language used to describe it goes on and on as if it really is the most important institution in the region. It's just a high school! Authors who feel the need to express their adoration for the school should do it in a Penrith High article and make a link to the school on this article. That or date the principal.

[edit] Penrith Prostitutes

I removed the following statment (Penrith is served by many prostitutes) from the rail section. In the unlikely event

anybody feels the need for this sort of information to be included in the article Penrith has many brothels so street walking prostitutes at the station or anywhere within the city are uncommon. (Mikey01 21:59, 2 May 2007 (UTC))

  • i never saw that part of the page, what was listed? Ry90 04:56, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Discussion on Article page

I have just removed:

"*Note, Pentrith is not part of Sydney tbh.
==*Note, Penrith is not part of Sydney tbh. ==
Yes, it's true folks."

This is not suitable for the article page, and I notice that it was all posted from the same IP address, User:220.233.121.117. Please discontinue these kind of edits on the article page, they are more suited to this, the discussion page. Thanks. Tinkstar1985 11:18, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Colloquialisms

I'm unhappy with the sentence which appears at the end of the first paragraph, "Penrith is colloquially known as 'Penno' or 'The Riff'." The Riff is indeed a colloquialism, but one which is used infrequently. However, being a resident of Penrith and a frequent traveller to inner-city suburbs of Sydney, I can say that I have never heard the term "Penno" used until I read this article.

There are however, a number of reasons why this sentence should be removed in its entirety. It's completely irrelevant to the article. It is not in keeping with articles related to other suburbs of Sydney. It does not appear to provide a NPOV as it is unsourced. My own personal effort to remove the sentence was undone with the reason, "it's a fact." According to who? A further effort by another user to remove the sentence was undone in the same way.

Strongly recommend removal of the sentence. Please discuss. 121.216.176.92 (talk) 15:04, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

Colloqual names are included on many Sydney articles: Parramatta, New South Wales, Erskineville, New South Wales, Kensington, New South Wales, Baulkham Hills, New South Wales, Curl Curl, New South Wales, Peakhurst, New South Wales etc...
I'm not familiar with 'Penno' as a colloqualism for Penrith but "The Riff" is legendary. The former Federal member for Penrith, Jackie Kelly, even had a clothing line with "The Riff'" proudly emblazoned on the front. Just google Rff and Penrith and you'll find dozens of blogs and forums that use the term Riff for Penrith. [1] Cheers. J Bar (talk) 22:49, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
Fair enough. Thanks for following it up 121.216.90.114 (talk) 05:13, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
As far as "Penno" goes, I've heard it in reference to Pennant Hills, New South Wales but never Penrith. Crico (talk) 21:16, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
