Penri James is a Plaid Cymru politician and was Councillor for the Tirymynach Ward on Ceredigion County Council. He was first elected to Dyfed County Council (1993-1996) and subsequently to Ceredigion County Council (1995-2008). In the council elections on 1 May 2008, he lost his seat to the Welsh Liberal Democrat candidate, Paul Hinge.
In October 2007 he was chosen by Plaid Cymru as the Prospective Westminster Parliamentary Candidate in the Ceredigion Constituency.
Penri James is a lecturer in agriculture at Aberystwyth University.
