In January 2007, It was over on the Taiwan Entertainment news, the passing of Xu Wei Lun which is a good friend of Penny. She losses control upon the receiving the bad news. At that time Xu Wei Lun is doing a drama called "Daughter of the Sun", and she and Ariel Lin was considered for taking her role in "Daughter of the Sun."

Chinese TV 8pm drama "Daughter of the Sun" finally decided that Xu Wei Lun's good friend Penny Lin will continue the drama as the lead female "Si Jia". Penny today first went to the meet up with the Chinese TV president Xiao Ye, then she went to prepare for the fifth with Yi Nan to New Zealand to film for some scenery shots. Director and producer Wang Zhong Guang expressed that after Xu Wei Lun passed away, there were many lead female replacements listed online. Many replacements named were Xu Wei Lun's good friends, but in the choices, Penny's appearance and personality matched the lead female's character the best.
Wang Zhong Guang and Xiao Ye both wanted encouraged Penny with "It's not replacing, but helping good friend Wei Lun finish her unfinished work." Wang Zhong Guang expressed that before the three episodes that Wei Lun already filmed, they will still leave it be, and they will change the drama a bit, letting Penny show up after the fourth episode, and the audience will still understand the change of character.
After the changes in plot, Wei Lun's character was still suffering from a heart condition, but after she received a machine to help her with it, she went to New Zealand to study for eight years. After these eight years, it will be Penny Lin who will continue the drama, also meeting male lead Si Yi Nan there.
As for continuing the drama "Daughter of the Sun", Penny has expressed that facing everyone's speculation, she does feel some pressure inside. Her friends all support her, and some were even worried. Originally, she would have started filming another film in March, so she was very torn between the two projects, and after discussing with her mother about it, she thinks that there will always be another opportunity for new dramas, but this is the only opportunity for her to help her friend finish her wish, and that's when she decided to go with "Daughter of the Sun".
When talking about Wei Lun's old character, she said that Wei Lun was too good. When she was looking at the script she'll keep thinking about Wei Lun's personality and her small habits or she'll think about the scenes that Wei Lun did already. With this kind of emotion, she still needs a bit more time to adjust. Wang Zhong Guang doesn't want Penny to see the scenes that Wei Lun already finished filming, hoping that Penny won't be affected by it.
