Pelon Pelo Rico

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pelón Pelo Rico is a popular tamarind flavored candy made in Jalisco, Mexico. The treat's name loosely translates in English to "Delicious Hair Bald". The name comes from the fact that the candy is squeezed out of a tube through a grate, producing a Medusa-like effect. The concotion of tamarind, spices, and flavorings produce a whirlwind of flavors that are nearly addictive. Initially, the taste may be a bit unusual, but grows quickly on many people. Pelon Pelo Rico is an affordable candy, being sold for approximately $0.50 US at corner stores, and it is most commonly found in Mexican owned stores and markets. It is made under the Lorena brand by The Hershey Company. It comes in regular, sour lime, and extra spicy flavors.

Ingredients include sugar, water, glucose, chile powder, citric acid, xanthan gum, and tamarind extract.
