Pegasus Stakes

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Pegasus Stakes is an American Grade III race for Thoroughbred race horses usually held at Meadowlands Racetrack in October each year. The Meadowlands is in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

An event for three-year-olds of either gender, it's set at one and one/eighth mile (nine furlongs) on the dirt, and offers a purse of $250,000.

The Pegasus could be named in honor of any number of race horses called Pegasus, perhaps for one of the sons of the great English horse, Eclipse, but is probably named for the mythical winged horse, Pegasus.

The 2007 edition will be held October 27th at Monmouth Park, the Meadowlands' sister track, on the Breeders' Cup Undercard.
