Pedro Garcia (producer)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Pedro Garcia is a music producer, songwriter, and mixing engineer. He played guitar for Britney Spears, and has produced albums with Finch, New Found Glory and Jay-Z.
He started his career tagging along with legendary producer Jack Douglas. Under Jack's influence, Pedro started producing pop punk bands on the Western Hollywood scene. His ears have earned him a spot into a very elite group of music producers and engineers that record award winning rock bands. Pedro currently is involved in recording the new Evanescence album.
As a child, Garcia was immersed in notes, scales, chords, and meters. In high school, he started playing the guitar. By the age of 17, Garcia had his first number one single on Mexican radio, "No Podras," and was getting gigs at local studios and radio stations as a commercial producer. Then came the four-track and eight-track recording decks. “I got into recording as a way to get my music down,” he says. “It turned out that I was kind of a natural at it — I was really good at getting sound.”
After coming to the United States to attend Berklee College of Music, Pedro found better and better machines to work with. In a short while, he was programming drum loops for friends and hip hop artists in the Sunsent / North Hollywood scene, using the MPC2000 and the notator, the precursor to Logic Pro. He was recording tracks for his mentor Jack Douglas, using his newly found computer equipment. He was massaging tracks, mixing albums, and molding bands. “But I didn’t know what a record producer was,” he says. “I was just recording and helping out bands. It was just what I did every day.”
After this, he started working with Jimmy Eat World. “I did a remix for them that went platinum,” he says. The doors flew open and suddenly Garcia knew exactly what a record producer was. “Drive Thru records had just started and I got a call from some people at the company,” says Garcia. “He was looking for a producer and he hired me to work on a new act.”
Through word of mouth of his work, Pedro obtained a gig with a cutting-edge label.
