[edit] Real Madrid

Contreras picked up a UEFA Champions League winner's medal with Madrid in 1998 even though he did not play a minute of the campaign. He played 23 games for Real Madrid B from 1992 through to 1994. He also made 25 first team appearances for Real Madrid. While at Madrid, Contreras was loaned out to Rayo where he made 41 appearances.

[edit] Málaga

Contreras moved to Málaga CF in 1999. Contreras made 146 La Liga appearances following his move, between 1999 and 2003.

[edit] Real Betis

Contreras moved to Real Betis in 2003. He made 22 league appearances during the 2003/2004 La Liga season, but made none in the following due to injury and the rise of fellow Betis goalkeeper Toni Doblas. During the 2005/2006 season, Contreras made 16 La Liga appearances, while also appearing in the UEFA Cup and the UEFA Champions League where he kept a clean sheet against Chelsea in a 1-0 Betis win.

[edit] International

Although being called up for many Spanish national squads, Contreras received his only cap against Paraguay on 16 October 2002. The match ended 0-0.
