Johanna Rose Ratnavathi is a woman theologian who studied in the United Theological College, Bangalore to take a Bachelor of Religious Education from the Senate of Serampore College (University).
She was a member of the Andhra Evangelical Lutheran Church. Her forefathers were illustrious members of this Church having contributed to the culture and tradition of this Church.
[edit] Her early education
Her father was a pharmacist in the Indian Railways. She was born in Vijayawada when her father was posted here. She also grew up in Madurai. Her father belonged to the AELC Church. When her forefathers became Christians, it was said that strictures were imposed on them by the rest of the village community.
Her mother belonged to a traditional joint family with a large estate in Bandar of Krishna district. Her grandparents became Christians through the Church Missionary Society - now unionized into the Church of South India.
