Pavel Bazhov

Pavel Petrovich Bazhov (Russian: Павел Петрович Бажов) (January 27, 1879 - December 3, 1950) was a Russian writer.

He is famous as the author of the collection of fairy-tale stories The Malachite Casket based on the Urals folklore. The collection was published in 1939. In 1944 the translation of the collection into English was published in New York and London. Later Sergei Prokofiev created a ballet The Tale of the Stone Flower based on this book. He was also the author of several books on the Russian Revolution and the Civil War.

He was decorated with an Order of Lenin and won the USSR State Prize.

The former Russian prime-minister Yegor Gaidar is his grandson.
