From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Paullisa, Welcome to Wikipedia! I saw your edits to Icelandic horse -- excellent work. I'm glad we have you aboard, especially as translators -- you can see, we've plenty of work to do. I can only contribute some very poor German translation skills, so I try to recruit and encourage others with more ability than I have. :-) Anyway, I'm just leaving you a few useful links that helped me when I was new here. You seem to know how editing goes, but Wikipedia:How do I edit a page is sometimes useful. Questions can be asked in several places -- if it's a general question about how things work here, Wikipedia:Help desk is the place; a more complex question or one which is intended to spark dialogue in the community should go to Wikipedia:Village pump. If you just want some advice, thoughts, or maybe someone to look over changes you've made to an article, ask an editor on their talk page -- mine's at User talk:Jwrosenzweig and I'm always happy to help. I'd encourage you to look around and edit, but you already are -- good for you! Keep it up, and I hope to see your good work around here often in the future. Jwrosenzweig 16:55, 25 Jun 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks for the prompt welcome!
Actually, I do have a question (I'm browsing the FAQ, etc, but maybe you can help too. Is there a way to "turn off" the control-codes ("control-e" seems to submit an edit, for example) when editing? The ones provided clash with some local ones I have set up.
- Hmmm, you seem to have found a question for which I have no answer. Not so helpful, am I? :-) This is an excellent question for either the help desk or the village pump (probably the former). The only sure solution I know of is to go to your preferences (at the very top of the screen) and select a skin other than Monobook (which I believe is the only skin that allows these hot keys), but I like this skin best for editing, so I can imagine you not wanting to do that. There's probably a command you can write in User:Paullisa/monobook.css to disable the control-codes, but that's as much as I know. Good luck, and let me know when you find the answer. :-) Jwrosenzweig 17:21, 25 Jun 2004 (UTC)

- According to the "User_styles#Changing_access_keys" page at meta.wikipedia.org, one should add "ta = false;" to their monobook.js page (User:Paullisa/monobook.js); However, it's not quite working for me, yet.Lisa Paul 18:16, 25 Jun 2004 (UTC)

- It seems to have worked, I think, after I "reloaded" the skin by going to my preferences page, and clicking the "save preferences" button, without changing anything.Lisa Paul 18:20, 25 Jun 2004 (UTC)
- Glad it worked out! Hopefully next time you have a question I say more than "ask someone else". :-) Jwrosenzweig 18:25, 25 Jun 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks
Thanks for the corrections. The you're mother error was just an oversight not a joke. Also, I think you may have meant but rather than butt in the post on my talk page. Butt has a very different meaning than but does, you may want to correct that. :) -JCarriker 04:43, Jun 26, 2004 (UTC)
- Oh dear me, the irony of typos in corrections. I will certainly fix that.Lisa Paul 04:54, 26 Jun 2004 (UTC)
- Update: no, actually, that is the correct verb. "Butt" as in interrupt. I never thought of that humour before: a goat butts with its head!

Since you put your name down as a spanish to english traslator, and since you say that you mainly do translations and editing rather than creating new articles, i thought you might be interested in the new Spanish translation of the week collaboration project. This weeks collaboration is Género chico.(Disclosure: this is a bit of a "mass mailing", I'm working my way down the list of Spanish-to-English translators.)

[edit] Wikipedia:Spanish Translation of the Week
I would like to revive this project. I noticed that you've added yourself to the list of available Spanish-to-English translators. Are you interested in working on Spanish Translation of the Week? — J3ff 06:16, 21 Feb 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Am seldom here
As evidenced by my late reply, I should probably be very low on the list of translators, for use in the "Spanish Translation of the Week". Lisa Paul 07:32, 6 Jun 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Coincidence
I'm looking at Icelandic Horse, then I decide to see if I can keep a crawfish as a pet, and you just happen to pop up everywhere today. Just thought I'd point it out.Bryanedp9 00:16, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
