Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a mere directory of links nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that exist to attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam policies for further explanations of links that are considered appropriate. If you feel the link should be added to the article, then please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. See the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. Please not that forum links are a no no. Thanks. Mwanner | Talk 19:10, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

You wrote: "I was somewhat suprised and concerned by your rather intolerant and anal editing of my contributions. Whilst your cursory message suggested certain rules are set in stone it may well be a good idea to re-read the actual Wikipedia rules before overreacting in the future. I have posted the relevant sections below for you.

I think you'll now agree you were incorrect in your over zealous editing. Please contact me in advance before acting in this unfraternal manner again. I look forward to your response before re-instating the links.

I am quite familiar with the guidelines. Some parts that you omitted, however, are quite important, namely
  • "Links normally to be avoided", which includes forums.
  • "Use of Wikipedia to link to a website that you own, maintain or are acting as an agent for is strongly recommended against, even if the guidelines otherwise imply that it should be linked to."
I am sorry that you find the my edits "anal" and "intolerant". Wikipedia is being spammed rather massively these days. I remove scores of such links daily; if I had to contact each editor before enforcing Wikipedia guidelines, there would be hundreds more that went unremoved. As it is, some articles have dozens of links, which is about as useful as doing a google search on the subject.
As for your objections to the tone of the message, it is a standard piece of Wikipedia boilerplate.
Perhaps you would be willing to read WP:Spam#How not to be a spammer? And/or to work on the contents of our articles, rather than just adding links? I am sure you would have something worthwhile to contribute. I am going to be an optimist, and insert another piece of standard boilerplate, the Wikipedia welcome message:
