[edit] Help request
I am trying to put the article The marrow of tradition up for deletion. The reason is that the page The Marrow of Tradition is a superior duplicate of the aforementioned page. However, the templates do not seem to be working. Can you tell me how, exactly, to do it? Thanks --Paul Haymon 06:40, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
- Well spotted. Seeing as most people looking for the book may type the lower case, I've just made the worse page redirect to the better page, rather than flag the page for deletion. Of course, if you disagree, you can still petition for it to be deleted. Cheers, Dr Aaron 07:18, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
- I just checked my redirect on The marrow of tradition, and it doesn't appear to work - maybe there is something funny with the page, or there is something up with my browser. I've put your helpme back on. Dr Aaron 07:33, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
Thank you. Actually, I think your redirect works. But I would like to delete the page anyway. Paul Haymon 08:18, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
- Well, I think that the redirect is very useful, and in-line with Wikipedia tradition. A number of articles have redirect pages resulting from capitalization problems. I don't see any reason why this should be deleted. -- Merope Talk 14:30, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
Thanks, but I disagree. Why have two of the same page? I am planning to expand the good one, and having inferior duplicates is a waste of virtual space. It's inefficient, and it may cause problems for new users. I'm adding the helpme back. Paul Haymon 01:35, 7 October 2006 (UTC)
- After some thought, the redirect, though not the best solution in my opinion, is probably good enough for this purpose. I've removed the helpme. Paul Haymon 01:42, 7 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] License tagging for Image:Cca logo.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Cca logo.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:
This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 10:04, 7 October 2006 (UTC)
- Done. Paul Haymon 11:14, 11 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] "Professional" Level of English
I didn't know such a category existed until today. I read the relevant talk page, and I agree with the sentiment that a "native" speaker of English doesn't necessarily understand how to speak/write the language (e.g.: not knowing the difference between their, there, and they're; constantly typing irritation-generators like tommorrow and alot; and the infamous 's at the end of every word). Mind you, these are all issues that ought to have been long since stomped out thoroughly by fifth grade. Thus, with no other recourse, I award myself the highest English credential on Wikipedia possible. Not vanity, just honesty. Sort of. Paul Haymon 11:27, 12 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Venus Fly Trap
Hi Paul - I reverted your edit to Venus fly trap (re: man eating plants) because the statement was false. There wasnt ever a man eating "venus fly trap" ancestor. MidgleyDJ 00:29, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
- Hi again Paul, I still dont buy it - but I'm more than prepared to be proven wrong. I think what we do need is a better/actual reference than that site. We need something published somewhere. A plant of the kind described would have made major science news. My brief googling has come up empty! Which again suggests it might be a red herring. Hope this helps. MidgleyDJ 02:21, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
- Hello once more. I run Gullible.info and I can confirm that everything on the site is fabricated and almost certainly not true, including that bit about the fly trap ancestors. Kylestoneman 16:02, 18 October 2006 (UTC)
Blast... it's true, Gullible.info is a sham. But the question is, is this the real Kyle Stoneman? Paul Haymon 11:05, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] WP:MWA
Hi, in response to your question in the edit summary in WP:MWA, yes, blue links can be removed entirely. Strike through is used for if there's a non-existent article listed that no longer has many back links. Tra (Talk) 13:16, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:Enrique.gif)
Thanks for uploading Image:Enrique.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. [edit] Collaborate?
Would you like to collaborate on Oakland Public Library for the WP:SFBA Jumpaclass? All the details of how it works are on the Jumpaclass page. I'm inviting you to a joint collaboration (see under Variations), considering that's basically what we're doing with that article anyway. — Emiellaiendiay 07:22, 23 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Oops, sorry!
Hi. I totally apologise for dyking out your links on the McClymonds page. I put them back. But I'll bet there are some better ones, I'll look around. Thanks for your work on the page and no hard feelings, I hope!
ps.. yeah, I really should get a real account ... :) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.231.227.235 (talk • contribs)
[edit] Ref Tags
Hi Paul. I've seen some really fancy and complicated "ref tag" formats on Wikipedia. But 90% of the time, it's fine to just do this:
<ref>[http://www.yahoo.com Yahoo.com]</ref>
Here's how it looks in an article...
Yahoo is a neat site.[1]

Hope this helps. Jonathan Stokes 05:17, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] John Donne image
Thank you for offering assistance. I still am interested in the image and I'm think it's public domain, owing to being made back in the 17th century. Galanskov 17:13, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Edit to Son Gohan
The text that reads - It is never explained in DBGT why Gohan regained his golden hair trait when he powered up to Super Saiyan, being at the end of Dragon Ball Z, his hair stayed black when he transformed into a Super Saiyan - is OR because it incorrectly states that Gohan's hair remained black even as a Super Saiyan by the end of DBZ. There is no way to prove this because in the period of time between Super Buu transforming back into being Kid Buu and the end of DBZ, Gohan isn't seen transforming into a Super Saiyan. Therefore, the IP that inserted that text is assuming that by the end of Dragon Ball Z, Gohan's hair stayed black when he transformed into a Super Saiyan. -- bulletproof 3:16 04:16, 18 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Re: Regarding Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow
Well, it's a spoiler and it's precisely what a plot section can desbribe without requiring spoiler warning, according to Wikipedia's policies. Kariteh 09:28, 1 July 2007 (UTC)
[edit] The Town/O-town
I'd be glad to look up The Town for you, in the East Bay Express and also San Francisco Chronicle and Oakland Tribune and whatever other source may be reliable. I would appreciate your comment on the O-town discussion on the Oakland, California article as one user seems to think Lonely Planet and East Bay Express are not good enough references, this user is usually very rude and antagonictic and is usually all talk and no action s/he just complains about things like this and is very unhelpful. Thanks.CholgatalK! 08:58, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

- Thanks, yes I can definatly sympathise with how hard it can be to make additions that are in contradiction with an editor who may be perceived as WP:OWNing an article. Im sorry I haven't been able to help you with "the town", I have honestly never heard of that particular nickname before seeing it listed on this Oakland article, I tried and failed to find reliable sources but I will definatly keep and eye out and also try again later since I do believe you and I think ive heard other people say that yes it is indeed a nickname that they have heard. By the way, does anyone call oakland "there" or anything else you know of, so I may do all the necessary serches at once? Well when it comes to what people ask for sources you have to just accept that anyone may do so at any time even for arbitrary or malicious reasons yourself included, but fortunatly you may take solace in that most people only do so in good faith ignoring what they know to be true even if it is unsourced and adding citation needed tags only for subjects with which they are unfamiliar or which they find questionable. Ideally it would be more uniform, but I must say that wikiality does serve as somewhat as a benefit otherwise too much content would be up for removal in 7 days until a citation is found, including entire articles. Just remember if it is true and is also of note there probably is a source out there and with time it may be found and included although in some cases no amound of sources will be enough for certain editors but alas consenus is our supreme court. If you have any other questions or ever need any help or a second opinion on a talk page or discission feel free to give me a ring and i'd gladly do what i can when i have the chance. It would also help if you ever remember the town being used in a certain publication, that could help me a great deal.
PS whats your relation to the Bay Area, do you live here? what area? if you dont mind me asking.CholgatalK! 11:12, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
The reason I was asking was that I was wonderin g if there were any Oakland related articles you would like to collaborate on, see expanded, references, or created and also so I could know whevever you were from If you knew anything about certain topics. Thanks! I've lived and was raised in Richmond but was born in Oakland.CholgatalK! 20:51, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Richard Evans (British author)
"nn" in Wikijargon is "not notable". Wikipedia has notability guidelines (see WP:N). Being not notable is in no way a dis of the guy, he is probably just a fabulous person, loves Queen and country, his wife, kids and pets. It's just that his books aren't apparently well known, for all we know they may have been self-published. That's why I flagged it. If you disagree, you can certainly remove the tag and add the references from reliable sources that show why this guy is notable under the guidelines. Cheers, Carlossuarez46 06:33, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, reliable sources to show he's notable, if you read the two links above you can see how they dovetail each other. Cheers, Carlossuarez46 21:52, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] funnily enough
i had just made an addition to the McClymonds High School article, maybe you can do more with the article than I did.CholgatalK! 22:45, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
-
- go right ahead, that would be great, i was just unfamiliar with the high school not functioning anymore, i assumed the complex was the name for a mixed educational village with similarly named day care elementary middle and high school athletic and library facilitiies, maybe that should be clarified in that article.CholgatalK! 22:32, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Rayman cropped.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Rayman cropped.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 23:32, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
