[edit] Contest deletion

This is the article for a fully notable footballer. Just because a banned user made it while they were banned does not mean it should be deleted. -- Mattythewhite 22:01, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

I agree. Paul Robinson is a very notable individual in English football, having played at a World Cup, been England's first choice goalkeeper for many years and played for two high profile teams. If that's not notable then most of the sports people pages should be deleted. Plum743 22:14, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

FYI, this article is not up for speedy deletion. A speedy tag was placed on Template:England Squad 2004 European Championship, which made it look like the tag was on this article. Ytny (talk) 22:17, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Distance of goal

Has the distance of Robinson's goal been verified? - the source used (the Guardian article) says 95 yards, but the BBC match report says "fully 80 yards". Another user has changed it to 88 yards with no comment or citation. --Jameboy 20:23, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

I've also seen 75 meters (International Herald Tribune), though I guess that's roughly 80 yards. My guess is that they're either guessing or measuring different things, i.e. spot of the free kick to the end line vs the goal. But since the sources disagree, I think we should just include what they do agree on, which is that the goal came from within Tottenham's half of the field. Ytny (talk) 20:56, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Clean-up

Glad to see this article's going under some rennovation. I went through it a week ago and did a few bits and bobs and it's improved hugely since then. Last week I added: Since the game Robinson has come under scrutiny from the press, and has had position called into question.<ref>[http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/internationals/6459257.stm Clemence blasts Robinson critics]</ref> It's been removed, by the looks of it because an IP editor inexplicably removed the reference to add something about the goal. I know that looks quite vague and might need re-wording, but I think it's worth stating that his position has been called into question, and that ref is a useful one. [edit] Dispute of goal for leeds united

Paul Robinson has scored a goal for leeds united as clearly shown here and it was in league play vs swindon. as stated here on the Football Association web site, http://www.thefa.com/Features/EnglishDomestic/Postings/2003/09/66983.htm and clearly video documented on you tube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MU2Yo7vpoSQ

That goal was in the league cup, as the link you provide also clarifies: "England goalkeeper Paul Robinson was Leeds United's hero last night as the Elland Road club reached the third round of the League Cup after beating Swindon Town on penalties.
Robinson scored a stunning equalising goal in injury-time to take the game to extra-time before making the crucial save in the eventual penalty shoot-out."Thurls 14:27, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

so why not count the goal?

Because it was in a cup competition and the goals record is for those scored within the domestic league Thurls 08:35, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Article Name

In keeping with convention of footballers sharing the same name, shouldn't this article be named Paul Robinson (footballer born 1979)? That's the way it was done with the two Michael Johnsons (see Michael Johnson (footballer born 1973) and Michael Johnson (footballer born 1988)) and with the other Paul Robinson (see Paul Robinson (footballer born 1982)), where the birth year rather than playing position is listed. I don't see why this article should be any different. Negative Two Seventy Three (talk) 07:17, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

I just had a look, there are a few, but I think the way it is, is fine to me, easier to see and determine which one I want from the list. Govvy (talk) 13:43, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
