Paul Peter Patrick McNaughton (born November 11th, 1952, Dublin, Ireland),was an Irish rugby union and soccer player during the 1970s and 1980s. He played rugby as a centre, with Leinster, Ireland , Greystones and Wanderers FC. Although better known as a rugby player, he also played soccer for both Shelbourne F.C. and Bray Wanderers A.F.C..To add to his array of sporting achievements, Paul represented Wicklow GAA in both senior football and minor hurling. Becoming the only person to play 3 sports in Ireland's national stadiums.

McNaughton won 15 caps for Ireland between 1978 and 1981. He made his international debut against Scotland at Lansdowne Road. He was part of the Irish tour to Australia in 1979 in which they beat Australia twice. His international career came to a halt at the peak of his sporting career when he emigrated to Chicago while working with the IDA.

Paul was a regular on the Leinster XV between 1977 and 1981 when he emigrated.

Greystones RFC was where Paul began and ended his rugby career. He left Greystones while they were still a Junior side to play for Wanderers FC in the Senior League. He then returned to Greystones to Capatain their first outing in the Senior League. Paul went on to become coach and then President of the club.

While playing rugby, Paul also played semi-professional soccer with Bray Wanderers A.F.C. and Shelbourne F.C.. He won two Irish cups, scoring in both. He also played in the UEFA cup with Shelbourne F.C.. McNaughton also represented both the Irish Universities team and Irish Amateur team during his career as a soccer player.

Paul had a brief spell with the Wicklow GAA Senior football team. His overwhelming commitments to both Rugby and Soccer ended his involvement in that arena. He represented Wicklow in minor hurling, the sport which he was most enthusiastic about growing up. In his later years as an International Rugby player he criticized the GAA for the lack of protection and safety hurlers have on the pitch.

Paul has over 20 years experience in Banking/Fund Management and Securities Processing in Ireland. Prior to this he spent 10 years with IDA Ireland, both in Dublin and the USA, marketing Ireland as a location for multi-national investment. Paul worked on the lending side of Irish Bank of Commerce and as Head of Corporate Investment with [Bank of Ireland] Asset Management before establishing Bank of Ireland’s Mutual Fund business in the IFSC. In 1991 Paul established [Deutsche Bank]’s Fund business in the IFSC and assumed the role of Global Head of Deutsche Bank’s Mutual Funds business in 2000, based in London. In 2004, Paul left [Deutsche Bank] having led the sale of Deutsche’s Mutual Funds business to State Street Bank for Euro 1.4 billion. Paul now acts as an independent advisor and non-executive director for a number of IFSC financial entities and fund companies.
[edit] Leinster Rugby Team
Paul was appointed Director of Rugby at Leinster in 2005. After two years in that position he became Chairman of the Board at Leinster. During his time at [[[Leinster]]] he was known for his battles with Irish Coach Eddie O'Sullivan over the IRFU's control over Leinster and Eddie O'Sullivan's delayed release of Leineter players after Ireland training camps.
[edit] Ireland Rugby Team
Paul was recently appointed manager of the Irish Rugby team where he will be reunited with Declan Kidney. Paul will hold the position until after the 2011 World Cup.
