Patrick Michael "J. Que" Smith (born in North Carolina) is an American Grammy Award-winning record producer and Songwriter. He has contributed to songs from Usher, Fantasia, Avant, Jagged Edge, Chris Brown, and Marques Houston.

Smith was born in North Carolina, but was raised in Anniston, Alabama, to minister parents. When he graduated highs school he attended a community college and later transferred to Auburn University where he maintained a 3.87 GPA. Smith later dropped out, with his parents blessing, and decided to pursue music in Atlanta. He formed a group called Melange and began making themselves known in and around Atlanta. He began writing songs to impress a girl he met named Erika Nuri, because she herself was a songwriter. (Pink, Fantasia, Xscape, Babyface) When his manager heard one of those songs, he asked Smith to write more. Smith is now part of the production group "The Clutch". [1]
