Pat Lytle is an artist based in Kasilof, Alaska. She specializes in an abstract style of painting and a photo-realistic style of drawing.
Born in Bayshore, New York in 1959, Pat later moved to southern California with her family as a child where she was heavily involved in art throughout high school. Her main focus was in charcoal and she won several awards at student shows in the process. In 1985 she began pursuing a career in horses and later met her husband Terry, to which they moved to Juneau, Alaska together in 1987 and later to their current home of Kasilof, Alaska in 1989.[1] They currently have a daughter together named Kay.
Ten years later, in 1999, Pat returned to her natural talent in art and opened Off The Canvas, her art studio. The vast majority of her work was murals and commissioned realistic paintings. She painted a 7' x 14' mural at Central Peninsula General Hospital in Soldotna, Alaska during this period as well a several other various pieces of artwork.[2]
Pat decided to enroll in UAA's Kenai Peninsula College in 2005 in order to go beyond the more realistic style she was familiar with while growing up. Through her KPC instructor, Celia Anderson, she was introduced to the more abstract style of painting that she specializes in today.[3]
Pat has competed in several exhibitions throughout her career such as "Small Shots" at the Kenai Fine Arts Center in Kenai, Alaska in May of 2006 and 2007, "KPC Student Juried Show" at the Gary L. Freeberg Gallery in Soldotna, Alaska in April of 2006 and 2007, and "Divergent Views" at the Kenai Visitors & Cultural Center in Kenai, Alaska as well as win the Juror's Choice Award at the “No Big Heads Juried Show” in UAA, Anchorage, Alaska in November 2006.[4]
In her spare time, Pat works out of her art studio, Off The Canvas, which is on the border of Kasilof, Alaska and also has a gallery at Frames N Things in Soldotna, Alaska.[5]
