The Parthenon, detail of the eastern facade. This photo shows the left (south) half of the entablature (epistyle, triglyph-metope frieze, horizontal and raking geison, pediment). The metopes, now worn and defaced, depict the Gigantomachy (or Battle of the Gods and Giants). Note also the numerous holes in the epistyle, indicating the position of an ancient inscription.
