Papplewick Pumping Station

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Papplewick Pumping Station, based in the picturesque Nottinghamshire village of Papplewick, was built between 1881 and 1885 as a means of pumping water from the Bunter sandstone to provide drinking water to the City of Nottingham. The building has outstanding cast iron fittings and stained glass which are much admired. [1] Papplewick Pumping Station is the only one in the Midlands which has been preserved as a complete pumping station in full working order.

The pumping station is now open to the general public as a museum.[2]
