This may be completely useless, but some of my friends say they smoke Pall Mall because it is pronounced like the French phrase "pas mal." Pas mal meaning "not bad." Is this a new trend that is worth mentioning. Maybe this page could use a little information about the demographic smoking this brand. I'll look around but this is probably available. I once purchased a pack of Pall Mall and was asked by a co-worker sometime later to bum one from me. She saw the package design and said, what are you an old man? My grandfather smoked Pall Malls. I was like, do you want a cigarrette or not?

Comment by 4.26.47.251 placed on the actual page -- Not entirely sure of the date, but I am pretty sure that Pall Mall introduced a filtered cigarette sometime between 1970 and 1975. I know it was before 2001, because I smoked them at least once, and I quit in 2000.

As far as my research goes, Pall Malls didn't have at least a regularly produced filtered cigarette until 2001 when they introduced not only the filters, but lights and menthol cigarettes. Just some OR: My father was a Pall Mall smoker (pronounced it "Pell Mell") and I clearly recall him smoking them filtered (in the gold package, so they'd have been filtered 100's) in the late 70s and early '80s. TCC (talk) (contribs) 04:11, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Removal of "Cigarette brands" category

I have removed Category:Cigarette brands from this article because Category:R.J. Reynolds brands is a sub-category of the former. It defeats the purpose of having this subcategory if we're going to list the articles in both. SchuminWeb (Talk) 01:50, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

I have changed the date of Pall Mall filters' introduction to 1987, based on my having been the media planner at the ad agency planning the newspaper ads at that time. The "pell mell"-like pronunciation comes from the 17th c pre-croquet mallet & ball game, and is also a famous posh street in London. dr elys jimenez 07:25, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

The article states than in 1994, when Pall Mall was purchased by Brown and Williamson, it was one of the few brands to remain unfiltered. Then it states that in 1987, filtered Pall Malls were introduced. Which is correct? I seem to recall ads dating to the late 80s for filtered Pall Malls. I will keep looking for proof.
