Palacio de la Moncloa (Moncloa Palace) , situated in Madrid, has been the official residence for the President of the Government of Spain since 1977, when Adolfo Suárez moved the residence from a palace situated in the centre of Madrid, at Paseo de la Castellana. The residence is surrounded by several other buildings which altogether form the Moncloa complex. The ministry of the president is situated in this complex, as well as the vice presidencies (when they exist) and the press office. The weekly cabinet meetings are usually held in La Moncloa.

[edit] History

The palace used to belong to the Duke of Moncloa, the palace's namesake. The palace itself was completely destroyed during the Spanish Civil War. It was later rebuilt and has served as the official residence to the President of the Government of Spain since the Spanish transition to democracy.
