Source:The source credits "(UN Photo/Yutaka Nagata; from the book Return to the Source by Amilcar Cabral.)". This is probably copyrighted but one could make an argument for {{fair use}}. — Edwin Stearns | Talk 17:08, 14 Dec 2004 (UTC)

[edit] The image linked here is claimed to be used under fair use as:

1. it is a historically significant image of an important past event, for which no archive of free photos exists: Portuguese Military and Press archives constitute the primary image sources, and are not freely available. Period of historic events does not fall in to PD for at lease 40 years from current date. 2. it is of much lower resolution than the original (copies made from it will be of very inferior quality) 3. the Image is only being used for informational purposes. 4. Its inclusion in the article adds significantly to the article because it shows one of two sides of a past conflict, for which there are few photgraphs available and is historically significant to the general public. No new photographs can be made. 5. Source:reporduced on an academic/educational website at http://www.ccny.cuny.edu/humanities/jaffee/historian/1729/sigal/index.html "(UN Photo/Yutaka Nagata; from the book Return to the Source by Amilcar Cabral.)". 6.Usage. This image is claimed as fair use in the following articles 6a)African Party for the Independence of Guinea and Cape Verde

  • Justification: This is the organisation to which the persons pictured belonged. It is needed to illustrate this article as images of this side of the conflict are rare, and no archive of free photos exists: Portuguese Military and Press archives constitute the primary image sources, and are not freely available.

6b)Guinea-Bissau War of Independence

  • Justification:As above. This is the conflict in which the org above fought. Conflict was an insurgency, and thus there was little photo coverage from this side of the conflict. Article contains other images from the opposite side of the conflict, and thus images from this side are needed for NPOV.

6c)Portuguese Colonial War

  • Justification: This was the larger conflict into which the Guinea-Bissau War of Independence fell. Photos of the insurgencies of the other fronts of this conflict are equally hard to obtain, and there are no free image replacements available.

6d)African independence movements

  • Justification: This was the larger historical movement into which the Portuguese Colonial War fell. As most of African independence movement were carried out without open warfare, illustrating the Portuguese Colonial War is particularly needed. As above, no free images of this aspect are available, because of the nature of the conflict and the time before PD images become available.
