trying to figure out where/when the math went awry - probably some historical king did a re-adjustment..?

1 mile = 5280 feet 1 mile = 1000 paces (mile is mille passus or something like that)

so (theoretically) a pace should be 5280 * 12 / 1000 inches = 63.36 inches, not the 58.1 inches mentioned in article
