[edit] History
Oxted was built as a joint London, Brighton and South Coast Railway/South Eastern Railway station when the South Croydon to East Grinstead line was opened on 10 March 1884. The main station buildings are on the Up side at street level; access to the Down side is by subway. There are tunnels at each end of the station:
- Oxted Tunnel 1 mile 23 chains (2.07 km)[1] at the London end
- Limpsfield Tunnel 551 yard (501 m) at the country end
[edit] Services
The typical off-peak service is:
- 2tph (trains per hour) to London Victoria
- 1tph to London Bridge
- 2tph to East Grinstead
- 1tph to Uckfield
[edit] Development
On 1 November 2007 approval was given to install a lift from street level to platforms 2 and 3, at present only accessible by stairs.[2] Future proposals, possibly for completion by 2015, include platform lengthening to deal with twelve-car trains and inclusion in the extended Thameslink network.[3][4]
