Owls in the Family is a novel written by Farley Mowat in 1961.
The story is about a two Great horned owls that are found by Billy, Bruce and Murray in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. The owls become part of a larger pet collection. The humorous story centers around Wol and Weeps; Wol being the bigger bird, Weeps the smaller. Weeps was found in a barrel filled with oil and when he witnesses cruel children throwing stones at the owl, Billy trades his pocket knife for him. Weeps is unable to fly, and both of them get into trouble with human society. Later, When Billy and Bruce attend a fair, using Wol, Weeps , Mutt, and Rex for a chance to win a prize, they lose gophers and mice. The story mostly focuses on the characters of Wol, Weeps and Billy.
This book has a sad ending; Billy has to give his owls away because he has to move to Ontario. He doesn't want to leave Saskatchewan, but he has to, maybe he'll see his owls again someday...
