Out in the Fields (song)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"Out in the Fields" is a single by former Thin Lizzy band members Gary Moore and Phil Lynott, released in 1985.

The song is reminiscent of the sound of their band and draws many influences from both artists' wide musical palettes. It is one of the biggest hits for both performers.

It performed well critically as well as commercially, peaking at number 5 on the UK Singles Chart, the highest position either of the two would ever reach in their careers.

The lead guitar solo performed by Moore in Out in the Fields has long been considered a masterpiece by electric guitarists, despite its short duration. Included in the Top 100 Guitar Solos of All Time, the transcript heeds the learner to 'map' the piece slowly, gradually building speed until acquainted therewith. It epitomizes touch, dexterity, harmony and, above all, sheer power and direction. The music video has much of the solo videotaped with an 'on-board' camera mounted to the Gibson body giving a 'low-level' view of the extending neck. A lizard was positioned trying to balance/cling to the guitar neck - only to eventually lose balance/grip and fall off near the climax of the solo.

The song has been covered by various bands including Michael Schenker Group, Primal Fear (band) and Sonata Arctica
