I've never heard Otley compared to Royston Vasey!

Xploder: Yay.. I live here!

How many pubs does Otley have now? is it still 22 or has it reduced? (Barry m 22:26, 27 December 2005 (UTC))

[edit] Pubs

I've got 20:

  1. The White Swan
  2. Manor House Hotel
  3. Junction Inn
  4. Ring O Bells
  5. Bay Horse Inn
  6. The Black Bull
  7. Rose & Crown
  8. The Bowling Green
  9. Yew Tree Inn
  10. The Woolpack Hotel
  11. The Red Lion Hotel
  12. Whitakers
  13. The Cross Pipes
  14. The Fleece
  15. The Spite Inn
  16. The Royalty
  17. The Westbourne - ? is this now Westbourne Spice ?
  18. The Chevin Inn
  19. The Yeoman
  20. Three Horseshoes
  21. The Black Horse (added 84.68.229.39 19:13, 13 March 2006 (UTC))
  22. The Summercross? (the one as you head to Pool) (added 84.68.229.39 19:13, 13 March 2006 (UTC))

That's 1 per 705 head of population. I'm aiming to include only those in the Census LSOA Leeds 004A-E and 003A-D accounting for 14,100 of population. Are there any more?

Edit the list if you have any...

Obviously the population used to be lower, and then number of pubs higher. My wife says there used to be over 30.

Defunct pubs include:

  1. Royal Oak
  2. One opposite the Fleece, whose name I forget
    1. I think that was the Mason's Arms. The reason I think this is that's what it says on the house that's now there... MorkaisChosen 18:16, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
  • There must be others!

Also add Tapped, previously the Mex Cantina, makes 23, or 1 per 617 heads. 81.132.18.217 22:01, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Sources/references

What needs sources:

  • Source of stone for Parliament's foundations
  • History, Ancient
  • Church History
  • Charter of Market
  • Chippendale's birthplace is probably OK since it is in the Chippendale article.
  • Turner's associations need espansion and sources
  • Wesley's associations likewise
  • Wharfedale Printing Machine needs expansion and sources. Otley Museum should be a good source for that.

Transport: Bus routes may be unencyclopedic? Would we not be better served by a brief summary of road links, a statement that buses run to leeds, menston, bradford and Harrogate as well as surrounding towns, and a link to the transport compny websites? This would also take care of sourcing these statements. 81.132.18.217 21:59, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
