Osman Necmi Gürmen is a Turkish novel writer born in 1927. The first novel he wrote in French, "L'echarpe d'iris" was published by Gallimard in 1976 in France. The book was published in Turkish by Hurriyet Books under the name "Ebem Kusagi" in 1977. The second novel that Gürmen wrote, but this time in Turkish, "Kilic Uykuda Vurulur" was published by Hurriyet books in 1978. The novel was translated into French in 1979 and was published in France by Gallimard under the title, "L'espadon". The book was translated to Norwegian in 1981 and was published with the title "Sverdfisken" by the Aschehoug Publishing House in Oslo. After a stalling period, he started working on “Le Renegat” in French in the beginning of 1990’s. The work, being heavy in volume, could not be published. Later on, the author decided to rewrite the book again in French due to the sources used and brought the content to a reachable size. However, the book was published with the title "Muhtedi" in Turkish in 2007. One novel, his fourth one, that he wrote after “Le Renegat”, titled “Rana” was published in 2006 prior to “Le Renegat”. The novel hit the “best-sellers” charts for longer than 6 months in Turkey. Osman Necmi Gurmen is keen on using sources in historical issues and thus, places his historical novels amongst academic historical research.
