Orthopaedic footwear is for people who have problems with feet and legs. Ortho is ancient Greek for staighten and paedic is foot. Generally this is for people who cannot find ready-made shoes that will help them to walk easily. Sometimes footwear can be modified relatively easily, such as raising a heel to balance a leg shortening. There are many conditions that can be helped such as those that are caused by accidents, birth defects or disease. There are even some that are self inflicted due to fashion.
