Orin

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Orin, Orrin and Orren mean "light green" while Oran and Orran mean "dark-haired". All variations are Gaelic - a Celtic language.

Orin and Oran are derived from the Gaelic Saint Odhran or Odran (pronounced O-rawn and meaning "brunette"), who was the chariot driver of St. Patrick and died protecting him on his mission to convert pagans to Christianity. Odhran is itself derived from the Gaelic name "Otteran" for otter. Seventeen saints have used the name.
