[edit] Gilding
Does it say if the 1958 regilding was done in honor of the 1959 Oregon Centennial? That would be a good addition. Also, gold doesn't really tarnish, and apparently it doesn't corrode. Maybe it just wears off or is it a reaction with the bronze? Katr67 22:56, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
- As far as I read it does wear off, but though gold may not oxidize and tarnish, anything less than 24K means there are other metals mixed into, and those usually do oxidize. I worked in a jewelry store for five years and we would often see blackened items similar to what the pictures of the statue look like from the site that talks about the re-guilding. [edit] Solar
Also need to add that the statue is lit by the first solar array installed on a U.S. capitol. Katr67 23:38, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
- I saw something about a solar installtion, but I didn't read it since I figured it was a mis-hit. I'll see about adding it later. Aboutmovies 01:34, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
- If you watch the Oregon Channel there's short piece about it that airs every so often, with the Kitzhaber dedication and showing the folks doing the installation. Not sure if it's available separately somewhere... Katr67 05:23, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
