[edit] OMSI vs Oregon Museum of Science and Industry

Shouldn't OMSI redirect to Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, rather than vice-versa? I'm somewhat new to wikipedia and don't know the exact procedure on this. Sunilonln 02:44, 3 Jun 2004 (UTC)

I would disagree. OMSI is the colloquial name, although the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry is the official name. No one around here refers to it using the full name.
While you are both correct, I believe it should stay as "Oregon Museum of Science and Industry". Nearly all Oregonians refer to it as "OMSI", however most visitors to the museum (who are unfamiliar with this region) refer to it as the "Oregon Museum of Science and Industry" -- Tygar 1/29/2005

Perhaps I'm wrong, but the date of OMSI's purchase of the submarine seems wrong. I know for a fact that it's been docked in the Willamette River since at least 1994. --Micahbrwn 02:00, 9 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Volunteers

I think that maybe some mention should be given to the level of volunteer work put in at OMSI. I dont have the exact numbers, but some rediculous percentage of the man hours at OMSI is done by volunteers in the Volunteers in Promoting Science (VIPS) program. Additionally, the Rising Stars program could be mentioned along with the summer camps as a way of training for a job environment. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Rekov (talk • contribs) 23:36, 15 April 2007 (UTC).

[edit] Child (Not Adult) oriented

I think there should be some mention of OMSI being more of a children's museum than for adults. When you hear the full name "Oregon Museum of Science and Industry" it sounds much more adult oriented, like the Smithsonian, while in actuality it's much more hands on and has a playground atmosphere. So, I was talking to a friend who mentioned Eugene's "Science Factory" (formerly Wiztech) had originally been named OMSI as well. Anyone know anything about this? 198.6.46.11 18:40, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

Answered my own question "1961 Initially a spin-off of Portland's OMSI, the first children's science museum in Eugene was known as SWOMSI (Southwest Oregon Museum of Science and Industry), and was located at the corner of 5th and Willamette--the current site of the Oregon Electric Station restaurant." http://www.sciencefactory.org/about/history.shtml 198.6.46.11 18:48, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

This article has more than enough information to achieve a GA class rating. However, hardly anything is properly sourced using reliable sources and the sections needs to be combined into larger related sections, see the manual of style for general guidelines on editing style.
