[edit] doubts

There are a lot of contradicting sources on the internet.

  • Some state that Nelson was the only recipient.
  • Are there sources for these other knights?
  • The article states "All the existing Ottoman orders could not be awarded to non-Muslims, and so Selim specially created the Order of the Crescent as a one-off for Nelson". Were there Ottoman/Turkish orders in 1799? I can't find any... The earliest was this one! Before that there were only chelengks.
