Welcome to the Chicago Oratorian Community. We are a small Catholic diocesan community following the lifestyle of Saint Philip Neri. While we are not a religious community, per se, we are a society of apostolic life. This means we live without vows in a common life while pursuing various ministries in the Archdioce of Chicago. We were formally established to serve the Archdiocese of Chicago by Cardinal Joseph Bernardin on the Feast of Saint Philip Neri in 1994. Our lifestyle is characterized as a "community of friends" (following the maxim of Saint Philip Neri: "a community of known faces"). If you are interested in this unique Catholic lifestyle, you must be an unmarried man (at least 25 years old, a Catholic priest or layman) willing to live in community, either Roman or Eastern Catholic, and interested in doing ministry in the Archdiocese of Chicago. Since we share some common expenses, you must be able to be self-supporting (either in a ministeral position or appropriate secular work). We expect that you would participate in our common life and some aspect of our parish-based ministry as well. Our residence is a parish rectory in suburban Chicago. Please feel to ask any questions you may have about us and our lifestyle. We welcome sincere inquiries. Please email us at oratory@the-oratory.org
