[edit] History

The Orangeville Athletic FC have been competing in the York Region Soccer League for over 40 years, dating back to when the league was known as the Newmarket District Soccer League. During this time Orangeville has normally fielded a successful team in which they won the Premier Division playoffs in 2001, and have also been winners of the John Traganitis Cup twice (1980, 2002).

In 2006, the Athletic bounced back from a disappointing season in 2005, being voted by many players around the league as the most improved team of the year, while taking 4th place in the league.

[edit] Athletic Expansion

In 2004, the Athletic felt that the town of Orangeville had enough soccer depth to field two more competitive teams in their loop. And so the Orangeville Athletic B (Now Orangeville United) and Orangeville Athletic Over 35 (Now Orangeville Town) were thus created. The Athletic B Team played in the division under the Premier team, while the Over 35's played in the York Region Second Division Over 35 Division. The United thus far have struggled in the First Division while the Town have dominated the Second Division and will be moving up to the Over 35 First Division in 2007.

Once again in 2005, the Athletic expanded into the YRSL's newly made Under 21 division as they fielded a team that was originally under the U18 Orangeville Storm banner. The team had been successful the previous year against their U18 counterparts as they won the league title in the Inter City Soccer League, but it seemed the older players that they were playing against were too much for them as they finished in the bottom of their loop. The next year, the Orangeville Athletic U21 would fold, with the remaining players joining up with the struggling Orangeville United.

In 2007, the Athletic introduced another reserve team to draw players from. This team would be named ADO Orangeville and would play out of the Intercity Soccer League.
