Talk:Optical disc recording modes
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Maybe some info on when using track-at-once and when using disc-at-once would be helpfull. Not only tech specs but also practical application....
"Pre-gap audio before the first track of the CD makes it possible to burn an unnumbered, "hidden" audio track. This track can only be accessed by "rewinding" from the start of the first track, backwards into the pre-gap audio." - I never thought of using it for that haha. I should go check my CDs I think :-P Dancraggs 21:54, 19 April 2006 (UTC)
- It's used in a few CDs. One I know of is the UK version of EP7 by Autechre. In my opinion, this is the "correct" way to make a hidden track, instead the more common method where 30 minutes of silence is inserted before a final track (as on Nevermind). The long silence method is a nuisance to program around, and actually makes the "hidden" track more conspicuous. However, a downside of the Track 0 method is that some CD players don't work with it. Dunno the rule on that, and I've never owned a CD player that couldn't play Track 0 (after holding the << button).

[edit] SAO
This doesn't mention SAO - Session at Once. However, I don't know enough about it to say it, other than its the sole supported mode on my dual-format Sony.
