Ophthalmia

Ophthalmia means inflammation of the eye. It is also referred to as Ophthalmitis.

Specific medical conditions exist that exhibit opthalmia. These include:

  • Sympathetic ophthalmia -inflammation of both eyes following trauma to one eye
  • Ophthalmia neonatorum - a form of bacterial conjunctivitis
  • Actinic Conjunctivitis - inflammation resulting from prolonged exposure to ultraviolet rays

In addition, Ophthalmitis is a genus of geometer moths. See Ophthalmitis (moth).
