Since there are way too many of those, please do not add link to their sites here. Such additions are against Wikipedia policies and guidelines (such as WP:EL), are actually wiki spam, and thus will be deleted ASAP.

Nice idea, I will try to. Speaking of "who controls the codebase" — since the software is covered by GNU GPL it can not be controlled by any single entity, being it SWsoft or any other company or person. Still, SWsoft remains the major (but not the only) contributor to OpenVZ. --K001 23:18, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

The article tries to feature virtualization in general and OpenVZ in particular and argue for their advantages, it does not describe it in an encyclopedic fashion. Wikipedia is not a soapbox (WP:NOT#SOAPBOX).

  • "you" is a forbidden word on wikipedia and an a clear indication of essay style
  • "Virtualization and isolation" contains no OpenVZ specific information.
  • "Et cetera et cetera."
  • WP:PEACOCK "resource management is of paramount importance. Really, each VE should stay within its boundaries and not affect other VEs in any way"
  • "Please note"
  • "Say, if you want to give"
  • "If you want to give your VE more disk space, you just increase its disk quota. No need to resize disk partitions etc."
  • "standard Linux process priorities and such."
  • "e.g. say that this VE is limited to, say, 10% of CPU time available."
  • "such as upgrading your server without any need to reboot it"
  • "if your database needs more memory or CPU resources, you just buy a newer better server"
  • "User-level tools": Wikipedia is not a manual page.
  • WP:WEASEL: "Indeed, some people are using OpenVZ with a single Virtual Environment. While this may seem strange"
  • "in order to apply a security update to your 10 virtual servers you have to log in into each one and run"

OK, got the point. Although I do not 100% agree ("Virtualization and isolation" is describing just what OpenVZ does), I now see the general direction of how the article should be cleaned up. Thanks a lot for detailed explanation. --K001 05:05, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] removed User Tools section

I removed the entire section. WP:NOT a user manual, nor a HOWTO. We don't need command descriptions, nor do we need a list of caches available. Also, the phrase "so basically," is bad style and a dead giveaway that the material is wrong for WP.

There may be useful information from that section that belongs in the article, but it needs to be extracted and rewritten. Rpresser 14:22, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
