Talk:OpenMG

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"This effectively means that OMA / OMG is now as versatile as MP3 (although not as widely used) and offers higher compression, allowing anywhere from 2x to 5x as much music to be transferred per GB (4000 tracks MP3 192KBPS Stereo = ~20GB / 4000 tracks OMA 48KBPS Stereo = ~4GB)"

As a (happy) user of atrac3, I can assure you that 48kbps atrac3 is not comperable to a 192kbps mp3. The compression artifacts are similar to a 128kbps or 96kbps mp3. Also, I think this is slightly misplaced statement, OpenMG is merely an encryption/drm system, correct? The actual compression is done by the atrac system.

After visiting the talk page to express the same concern, I have removed the above sentence. If someone can cite sources for it, or clarify it, re-add it. Jameshfisher 12:43, 2 June 2006 (UTC)

Really, this article needs a rewrite, it has a negitive spin on it, Does anyone else agree? Thedarksage 00:54, 26 December 2006 (UTC)TheDarkSage

[edit] Crack ?

Anyone know if there is a crack for OMA files yet? I'm eagerly awaiting it, and I know many others who are as well.
