Operation Atilla
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Atilla I was the codename given to the Turkish invasion of Cyprus. The invasion of the Republic of Cyprus began in the early hours of 20 July 1974, in response to a Greek-inspired coup d'etat which sought to unite the island with Greece. Three days later, the coup was dissolved and the lawful government was re-established.
Atilla II was the codename given to the second stage of the Turkish invasion, a month after the lawful government, on 14 August 1974.
