Description

"The first British Hydrogen bomb is dropped near Christmas Island"

Source

Date

15 May 1957

This is a common error based on 1957 disinformation. The May tests were not at Christmas (Kiritimati) but at Malden Island. They included 2 H-bomb prototypes which failed to function as intended, and 1 beefed-up N-bomb which was publicly sold as H-bomb.
The photo is of the first successful British H-bomb test (Operation Grapple X Round C1) which took place over Kiritibati on November 8, 1957. See en:Operation Grapple. Dysmorodrepanis 00:00, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
