Train No. 717, the Los Angeles Challenger, makes its way through Council Bluffs, Iowa led by Chicago and North Western Railway No. 4004 (a streamlined type 4-6-4 steam locomotive) on May 29, 1938.

This image (call number OP-3415) is from the collection of the photographs of the late Otto Perry (b.1894, d.1970) held at the Western History Department of the Denver Public Library (http://photoswest.org/), and is copyrighted.
